The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Mobile man wanted on kidnapping and assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred in Atmore on Sept. 9, according to officials.
Capt. Stephen Arthur said on Sept. 10, Janet Penn called the BCSO and said that she was in fear of her life because of threats from her boyfriend, Ledarrius Sigler, of Mobile.
“Ms. Penn advised that Sigler was at her uncle’s residence located at 17210 Sawmill Road West in Little River attempting to gain entry,” Arthur said in a release. “Once on the scene, deputies discovered a victim lying on the ground outside the residence covered in blood. The victim was identified as Joel Lewis Dees, uncle of Ms. Penn. Mr. Dees was suffering from a large laceration to the top of his head and was transported to North Baldwin Medical Center in Bay Minette. Deputies entered the residence to determine if the suspect was inside and to determine if additional victims were present.”
Arthur said a few moments later, deputies received a call from Penn who was then at a Shell Gas station in Stockton. He said Penn was asking for medical treatment for herself.
“Deputies arrived at the Shell Station and discovered that Ms. Penn and a 4-year-old female Ms. Penn has guardianship of had been forcibly taken from the residence in Little River and Ms. Penn had been assaulted with a wooden bat by Ledarrius Sigler,” he said. “Ms. Penn was transported to North Baldwin Medical Center.”
Arthur said the incident was a continuation of a domestic argument that occurred in Atmore the previous night, when Sigler unlawfully took Penn’s 2009 gold Hyundai Sonata. Arthur said the Sonata has a license plate number of 9960AY9.
He said Sigler is believed to be still driving the vehicle in the Mobile area as well as in Baldwin County.
Sigler, 25, is 5-foot-9, weighs 165 pounds and is a black male.
Arthur said warrants have been signed for Sigler for two counts of kidnapping I; two counts of assault II; burglary I; and theft I.
