The 12th annual Stomp the Yard event is going to introduce something a little different this year, officials said.

Stomp the Yard, which is will be held on Sat., Oct. 6, is a gathering for gifted youth at Houston Avery Park. Those interested in attending need to bring a chair and/or umbrella for the free event. An adult must accompany all children, officials said.

This year’s theme is centered on worship in the park, Coordinator Felicia Bishop said.

“While they’re out there, instead of regular entertainment, there’ll be a worship session,” she said.

Bishop said there will also be special guests at the event.

Bishop said a central focus of this year’s Stomp the Yard is to motivate and encourage the young people of the community, and to let them know they are needed and loved.

“The only way to do that is to show it,” she said.

Bishop said because everything is free, sponsors are needed to make it happen each year.
