Atmore Florist celebrated the opening of its new location on Monday.

The staple full service florist business is now located at 132 S. Main Street, just down from Carl’s Tot Shop.

Owner Joyce Petty said this has been a decision that’s a long time coming.

“This morning it felt good to hang the open sign and open the doors,” Petty said Monday.

Petty, along with her crew at the shop, have been working to get the store ready for more than a week.

Petty said they were in the shop’s former location, at 1327 S. Main St., for eight years. For 17 years before the first South Main location, Atmore Florist had a Highway 31 location.

Petty said she decided to move her shop because it gives an opportunity for growth.

The new location has a wide space floor plan, and a full onslaught of front windows for Petty’s many displays.

She said that they are planning on having a ribbon cutting ceremony on or about the time of Music on Main, which will be held Nov. 15.

Petty added that being closer to the downtown area means she’ll be able to participate in events coming up, including Jingle Bell Walk and any business-related events.

With a new location, Petty said she’s been asked whether or not the flower shop will be offering any new items.

“I will definitely be looking into that possibility,” she said. “It may be the first of the year so I can get through the holiday season.”

At present, Petty said her shop caters to floral arrangements, floral design, interior design, wedding, sympathy and plant work.

Right now, the shop is gearing up for fall and the holiday season, she said.

Atmore Florist is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon.
