A Century, Fla. man was arrested Oct. 13 on driving under the influence and reckless driving charges on Highway 31, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said that Michael Orlando McWilliams, 45, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. Lambert said McWilliams has bonded out as of Tuesday.

Lambert, while off duty, said he was traveling from the PCA Rodeo in Brewton on Highway 31 at around 11:45 p.m.

“Vehicles, along with myself, were traveling south on Highway 31 just north of Flomaton,” Lambert said. “I observed cars having to get off the road. As I began to look, I saw a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane. As the car came over to my side, I had to take to the ditch to keep from being struck.”

Lambert said two of the vehicles, along with himself, followed McWilliams and managed to stop him in front of Owens Collision.

Lambert said deputies were called and McWilliams was later arrested.

“We’re just blessed that somebody didn’t get seriously injured and killed,” Lambert said.
