Patricia Cross saw a need in Atmore.

Cross, who works with We Are Family Home Care, was a guest speaker at a recent Atmore Rotary Club meeting.

We Are Family is a not-for-profit service provider that was formed to meet the need for safe and affordable in-home, non-medical services. According to the home care’s website, they provide companionship services such as meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping/errands, incidental transportation, medication reminders, grooming and respite care. Additionally, care services such as bathing, grooming, and hygiene, mobility assistance, transferring and positioning, toileting and incontinence and feeding/special diet assistance, are provided.

Additionally, We Are Family provides dementia care, end-of-life care, live-in care and transition two home services.

Cross retired from Citi Bank in New York, and left her home for Atmore to take care of her mother.

She said she realized through taking care of her mother, that there are several other people here that don’t have the opportunity of in-home care.

“There are people here who need help,” she said, “but didn’t have the money for the care.”

At present, Cross said We Are Family has eight caregivers on staff.

“They have a compassion for others,” she said.

We Are Family is a 501(C)3 charitable organization, and donations are tax deductible.
