A phone call scam telling individuals that they missed jury duty is making its way around the area, according to Escambia County Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain.

Fountain said in a release this afternoon that he had two people come into his office today saying that they received scam phone calls for missing jury duty.

“This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened, however, this is the first time I have heard them reference my name or anyone else,” Fountain said. “The phone call tells the person they are an officer and gives them a badge number. They’re saying Circuit Clerk John R. Fountain has sent out a warrant for their arrest and Judge David Jordan issued a warrant from the bench.”

Fountain said in a release that they are requesting the person to buy a money order and/or green dot card and send.

“This is absolutely a scam, and this is the first time I have heard of them using my name or one of our judge’s names,” he said.
