Rachel Patterson Elementary students are gathering dog and cat food, along with cat litter, this month as a part of their Alabama Bicentennial School project.

According to the RPES Bicentennial Committee, parents of RPES students, during the month of November, the school will be hosting a Thanksgiving Feast food drive for Atmore/PCI Animal Shelter animals by collecting bags of dry dog, puppy, cat and kitten food.

Students are encouraged to send an unopened bag of dry food to school. The shelter is also in need of cat litter at this time, according to the letter.

Additionally, the school is also collecting monetary donations to purchase food for the animals. Those who send money, they are asked to place it in an envelope with Thanksgiving Feast for Pets marked on the front.

RPES is still selling Pandas for Pets T-shirts. Students will be able to wear these shirts to school on Friday. Please visit the Atmore/PCI Animal Shelter at 206 Cindebran Dr. for those interested in adopting a cat or dog.

The shelter also has a Facebook page.
