Alabama Community College System Chancellor Jimmy Baker announced Tuesday the appointment of Patty Hughston as interim president of Coastal Alabama Community College.
Hughston has more than 30 years of experience in K-12 and higher education as an instructor, counselor and administrator. Recently, she served as vice president of instruction and workforce development at CACC.
“For the last 10 years, Patty Hughston has been a committed team member first at Faulkner State Community College and continuing on to Coastal. Her proven leadership skillset is exactly what the College needs at this transitional time,” Baker said in a release. “I’m confident the students, faculty, staff and administration at Coastal’s 16 campuses and sites will be well-served by Patty and her wealth of experience.”
Hughston began her career with the Mobile County and Baldwin County Public School Systems, where she served in multiple roles from special education teacher to guidance counselor and director of career technical education. After joining Faulkner State Community College, she served as dean of workforce development and technology. Hughston earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Jacksonville State University, and a master’s degree in agency and rehab counseling and in administration from the University of South Alabama.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be chosen to serve Coastal Alabama Community College and more than 7,500 students across South Alabama in this new capacity,” Hughston said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues at each of our campuses to continue our commitment to excellence and a better future for every student.”
