There are so many things to be thankful for.

Tomorrow, families and individuals around the nation and world will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day.

Traditionally, the day marks the gathering of family and friends around one table for food and fellowship.

It’s a time to catch up with family members you haven’t seen in a while, and a time to reflect on your blessings.

There are so many people who aren’t in the same shoes as most.

A lot of times, the holidays can be a sad time for many as they reflect on those loved ones they’ve lost or are just going through a tough time.

I write all of this to encourage all to think about others who might not be as fortunate.

The other day, I interviewed a couple who are foster parents. You can read the story in today’s edition.

And during the interview, a point was made that sometimes when these foster children arrive at their new home, they don’t have anything with them. If they do, they have what the local department of human resources provides.

I say that to say that there are a lot of ways to help others.

I’m sure a simple search on the Internet will yield many options.

For example, the Red Cross is seeking donations to help Hurricane Michael and Wolsey Wildfire victims; the DHR is always accepting donations for those in need; and various churches will take whatever you can give.

My brother always ends his prayers the same way at able, and I believe it can serve as a rally cry for us.

“Help us to be mindful of the needs of others.”
