Escambia County Principal Dennis Fuqua said tonight that a recommendation for he next head football coach of the Blue Devils’ football team will be made during tomorrow’s board of education meeting.

Fuqua said ECHS had dozens of applicants for the vacant job, which was vacated by Rico Jackson, who was approved as Murphy High School’s next head football coach earlier this week.

“The committee and myself did interview six highly-qualified applicants, or six great men and coaches,” Fuqua said in a voicemail message. “It was a tough decision. We will make a decision for a recommendation for tomorrow afternoon’s board meeting at 4:30.”

Fuqua said the applications reached as far as California.

“It was a good process,” he said. “We appreciate the committee for what they did. We feel like we’ll have the right person in place for the job.”
