There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint.

That’s what the Greater Escambia Council of the Arts is getting on the exterior of its building on Trammell Street.

The new coat of paint is being coordinated through National Painting Week from Sherwin Williams.

Sherwin Williams dedicates a week to help spruce up areas in communities around the country.

The Sherwin Williams store in Brewton recently donated some 90 gallons of paint and other items to help paint the Atmore building.

Store Manager Robby McClelland said National Painting Week is held in May, but because the store is out of the area of Montgomery and Dothan, they hold the week themselves during the year.

“We pick a project once a year, and try to help local areas,” McClelland said. “We’ve completed projects in Brewton, East Brewton and Atmore before.”

McClelland said the store is aiming to complete another project in Brewton in March.

In addition to the paint, caulking and primer were also donated, McClelland said.

McClelland said the building will be painted in a Sherwin Williams (SW) Toile Red color, and the columns will be painted in SW China Doll. He said the dental and trim work will be Greek Villa SW 7551.

McClelland said pictures were taken of the building, and GECA officials decided on the color scheme. He said the company gives examples of what the building looks like based on different colors.

Fehr Paint Contracting LLC of Atmore is painting the building, McClelland said. Additionally, officials from New Beginnings Ministry are also helping with the painting of the building.

“We’re a corporate store, but we try to help every year in the community,” he said. “We try and help when we can.”
