Escambia Academy ended its boys basketball season, falling 65-50 to South Choctaw tonight in a AISA Class 2A first-round game.

Cougars coach James Smith said the game was one sided by the referees.

“It was extremely one sided,” Smith said, adding that the team knew what it was up against.

Smith said he was proud of his kids because they still played hard.

“They continued to fight,” he said. “They were a bit deflated. It was just so weird how the calls were made. We just couldn’t come out on the winning end.”

Smith said the game was the worst-reffed game he’s ever been a part of.

“It was so unfair how they treated the kids,” he said. “You have to wonder what the refs benefited from the kids. It was disgusting… shameful.”

EA ended its season 12-9.
