An Atmore man was one of two killed in an early morning crash in Baldwin County today, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Lt. Byron Piggott said in a release that shortly after 8 a.m., state troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Baldwin 87, near Cowpen Creek Road in the Elsanor Community. He said Steve A. Leonard, 57, of Atmore, was driving south on Baldwin 87 when his 2009 Dodge Ram collided head on with a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
“He was transported to University Hospital in Mobile where he succumbed to his injuries,” Piggott said. “A passenger in his vehicle, Michael Wayne Leonard, 54, of Century, Fla., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.”
Piggott said neither of them men were using seat belts.
Piggott said the driver of the Chevrolet, Blaine Gregg, 37, of Elberta, was injured and transported to Sacred Heart Hospital, along with two children — one from each vehicle — where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate the crash.
