JAY, Fla. — Aubree Love hit a go-ahead grand slam homerun in the top of the fifth inning to help lead Northview to a 8-2 victory over Jay in the FHSAA’s Class 1A, District 3 championship tonight.

With the victory, the Lady Chiefs advance to the regional, where they will host Franklin County in the regional tournament semifinals on May 9.

Love’s hit came on the first pitch from a Lady Royal reliever after the bases were loaded with one out.

Love said winning the district championship was awesome, and it took some luck to get the hit.

From there, the Lady Chiefs added three more runs later in the game, and Tori Herrington held JHS in check the rest of the way with a dominant performance on the mound.

JHS had the opportunity to score with runners in position several times, but couldn’t convert with Herrington in the circle.

This is Northview’s first district championship since 2012.
