Seniors participate in annual Law Day

High school seniors from Atmore got a little taste of what the judicial process is like May 2 at the annual Law Day celebration at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
Every senior from Escambia County High School, Escambia Academy and Atmore Christian participated in the celebration, which included some seniors being selected for jury duty.
Those who served on the jury include Kaile Gumapac, EA; Sam Martin, EA; Mary Thompson Lancaster, EA; Sara Rolin, EA; Justin Byrd, EA; Kyle Hostetler, ACS; Tatyana Davis, ECHS; Wesley J. Johnson, ECHS; Anna Marie Thomas, ECHS; Adonis Williams, ECHS; Joshua B. Hadley, ECHS; Miracle J. George, ECHS; and Danishia N. Murray, ECHS.
District Judge David Jordan presided over the trial, which entailed a possession of a controlled substance case. The offense occurred after a traffic stop on Oct. 10, 2018 on Highway 31.
According to the case, a seatbelt violation spotted by law enforcement officers yielded the drug arrest.
The jury found the defendant guilty on the possession charge.
