The Atmore City Council took no action today on a motion to donate 10 acres of property at Rivercane Industrial Park for the construction of a proposed hospital across from Wind Creek Casino and Hotel.

The item to vote on the donation, which was added prior to the meeting on Monday, received a motion from Councilman Webb Nall for passage, but didn’t receive a second, which is required for a motion to pass. This happened once before on the same item during the council’s Oct. 22, 2018, meeting.

Nall, Councilmen Chris Harrison and Jerom Webster, and Councilwoman Susan Smith were present Monday. Councilman Chris Walker was absent due to a doctor’s appointment running long.

Mayor Jim Staff said after the meeting in a telephone interview that the motion is dead.

According to Advance archives, the second land donation request Monday came some seven months after the first time the council took no action because of a lack of a second.
