APD is processing case as a homicide

An Atmore man was found dead in his Jack Springs Road home on July 26, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release at approximately 11:06 a.m. on July 26, the APD received a call from a residence on Jack Springs Road in regard to a deceased person.

Brooks said once officers arrived on scene and further observation of the deceased, Willie Ankum, 84, of Atmore, had injuries consistent with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

“Investigators responded to the scene, secured and processed the scene for evidence collection,” he said.

Brooks said the death investigation will be processed as a homicide, and will remain open pending forensic testing.
