“It was a knock down drag out game.”

That’s how Escambia County head football coach Scott Mason described the Blue Devils’ 19-15 region victory over No. 5 Hillcrest-Evergreen tonight on the road.

Mason said the Jaguars threatened late, running a play with 0.7 seconds left, but the ball was thrown out of the end zone.

“It was just a knock down drag out game,” Mason said.

Mason said there were chances ECHS had to go up big, but players dropped balls.

Additionally, the Blue Devils gave up a pick six.

Sophomore Jalen Barnes scored on a pick six, and Tyson Moorer had a 70-yard touchdown reception from senior quarterback Jacob Hammac. Jacob Dirden had a touchdown reception as well.

ECHS visits W.S. Neal next week in Class 4A, Region 1 action. WSN lost 21-0 to Clarke County tonight.
