The Atmore Police Department is investigating the early-morning death of a man near the 200 block of Patterson Street Apartments, according to officials.
Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release that at approximately 1:24 a.m. today, Sat., April 25, the APD received a 911 call stating that a person had been assaulted by what appeared to be a gunshot and stab wound.
“Atmore police and Atmore Ambulance Service were immediately dispatched to the scene,” Brooks said.
Brooks said the APD identified the victim as Desmond Deshun Dirden, 43, of Atmore. He said Dirden was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Brooks said the APD has made no arrest and continues to investigate the case, which is now considered a homicide.
