Mrs. Amelia Ethel Powers–Brooks, 89, of Atmore, quietly fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Sat., Aug 1, 2020 at her residence.
She was a native of Escambia County, and was the matriarch of her family. She worked for many years at Atmore Community (Greenlawn) Hospital as a dietician.
She was devoted and a faithful member of Saints with Vision A.F.M (formerly St. Paul A.F.M) Church of God, where she was a church mother and missionary. She loved her family dearly and loved to cook. She was a lady of faith and a praying lady who gave Godly advice to whoever she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Brooks Sr.; three sons, Sam Grant, Charles Grant Sr. and Jerry Grant; one daughter, Donnell Brooks; her parents, Mary and Elvin Powell; her sisters, Elvie Lee Powers-Savage, Marguerite Powers-Kelly, Mary Lee Powers-Nelson, Elder Minnie Lou Powers-Frye and Paulene Powers-America; her brothers, Zachary “Zach” Powers, David Lee “Bo” Powers, John “Johnny” Powers, Maurice Powers and Eddie Lee “Sonny” Powers; granddaughters, Shantelle Grant and LaTasha Grant; grandson, Charles Grant Jr.; and great-grandson, Erik A. Grant.
Those left to embrace beautiful memories of her life are a daughter, Carolyn (James) Carpenter of Detroit, Mich.; a granddaughter/daughter, Lakeitsha Brooks of Detroit; a son, Jeffery Brooks of Atmore; a grandson/son, Derrick (Tracie) Brooks; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Saints with a vision Church Family; and two caregivers, Marilyn Sharp and Gloria Robinson.
A funeral service will be held this Sat., Aug. 8, 2020, at 11 a.m. on the grounds of Saints with a Vision A.F.M Church of God, 232 Carver Ave., Atmore with Bishop Donnice Brown officiating. Retirement of her remains will be next to her husband in Fairview Cemetery. Public may pay their respects this Fri., Aug. 7, 2020 from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
