Atmore man arrested on drugs, firearm charges

An Atmore man was arrested on illegal drugs and firearm charges after a multi-agency search warrant was executed on Aug. 26, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Chief Chuck Brooks said in a press release that Austin James Gray Jr., 43, of Atmore, was taken into custody on multiple narcotics charges when agents discovered illegal drugs, paraphernalia and firearms at his residence on Franklin Street.

“Agents located a duffel bag with approximately 1,610 grams of synthetic cannabis (spice), 125 grams of marijuana and numerous scales and baggies for distribution,” Brooks said.

Gray is being charged with possession of marijuana I, trafficking (synthetic cannabis), possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and certain person forbidden to possess a firearm.

Gray is being held in the Escambia County Detention Center.

Brooks said agents with the Escambia and Monroe County Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force, officers with the APD, Poarch Drug Task Force, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Department of Corrections helped execute the search warrant.
