Shelters available for residents in Atmore ahead of Sally
Atmore city officials announced today there will be two shelters available for citizens who may need temporary shelter from Hurricane Sally.
Chief Chuck Brooks said in a release the officials have designated the auditorium at city hall for seniors, and for citizens with special needs.
The second location, for all other residents, will be at the Atmore Public Library on Church Street, Brooks said.
The shelters will be open at 8 p.m. today, Mon., Sept. 14.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, evacuees will be required to adhere to all of the CDC and State of Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines.
Evacuees are encouraged to bring bedding, food and water, and prescription medications to last for a minimum of 72 hours. Items forbidden in the shelter are alcohol and illegal narcotics.
The Atmore Police Department will be providing security while the shelter is opened.
Those needing transportation to the shelter should call the APD at 251-368-9141, or 251-368-9095.
