Mr. Jessie James “RED” Salter, 80, of Atmore (Freemanville Community) entered his heavenly mansion on Oct. 7, 2020 at Atmore Nursing Center.
A native of Atmore, Salter was retired from Masland Carpets for over 32 years as a machine operator. He attended Escambia County Training School and he was a member of the House of God Pillar Ground of the Truth holiness Church.
He enjoyed sitting on his porch, going to church, a big Los Angeles Laker fan, as well as a Alabama Crimson Tide fan.
Those left to cherish memories of his life are three daughters, Valeria Salter of Atmore, Jessica English and Jennifer English, of Los Angeles, Calif.; four sons, Winston Salter of Mobile, Overseer Shawon Salter and Jerry Johnson, both of Atmore, and LeDon English of California; a step-son, Terry Johnson of Atmore; two sisters, Lula Banks and Minister Melanie Etheridge, both of Atmore; three brothers, Kenny Salter, Robert Salter and Glen Young; 24 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Walk through viewing will be held this Fri., Oct. 16, 2020, from 2-5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held this Sat., Oct. 17, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.
