Like an army of ants, firefighters with the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department executed their jobs efficiently.
This was not during a fire or accident call, but during the 51st annual fish fry they had on Nov. 7.
Under a cloudy sky, the firefighters served between 800-1,000 plates of fried fish, hush puppies and other treats.
The fundraiser is held each year to help benefit the fire department for equipment and to help those in need.
One of those pieces of equipment is a new Kawasaki 4×4. The department used some of the money raised from the fundraiser along with a donation from Wind Creek Casino and Hotel Atmore to purchase the new all-terrain vehicle.
While at the fundraiser, I sat back and just observed the events unfolding in front of me.
There were men manning a fish-frying station, hush puppy station and of course, the volunteers helping serve each plate.
As the call for more fish or puppies came up, firefighters quickly rushed to help fill the need, just like they do on fire calls.
Literally, everybody had a job to do and it was cool to see them do it so well.
