Escambia County jury term canceled due to rise in COVID tests
The Dec. 14, 2020 jury term has been canceled because of the recent increase in positive COVID-19 tests in Escambia County, Ala., Circuit Clerk John Fountain said in a release.
“If you received a jury summons to the Dec. 14 jury term, please disregard that notice,” Fountain said.
Fountain said the Escambia County court system is pursuing all possible avenues to reduce the risk of COVID to the public and court personnel.
At the direction of our Circuit Judge Jeffrey Alan White, jury terms will resume in January 2021 as scheduled, he said.
According to an administrative order regarding the jury term, distirct attorney and defense counsel are encouraged to use the week of Dec. 14 to discuss settlement. A circuit judge will be available to take pleas, and all other large dockets will be managed by the judge presiding over said docket to mitigate the risk to the public and court personnel.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time,” Fountain said.
Those with questions or concerns can contact Fountain’s office at 251-867- 0225.
