City approves ordinance to amend zoning map

The Atmore City Council approved an ordinance to amend a piece of the zoning map during its regular meeting on June 28.
Building Inspector Greg Vaughn said during a public hearing that the planning commission made the recommendation to the council.
Vaughn said the rezoning is of The Atmore Advance building at 301 S. Main St., and the adjacent property behind the building at 102 Owens St.
The recommendation is to rezone the building and property from an R2 to a downtown business district, Vaughn said.
Before the city council approved the ordinance, a suspension of the rules was approved before the vote.
