Four Escambia County Middle School students were selected as winners in the 2021 Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board essay, video and poster contest, according to school officials.

Principal Takecia Barlow announced July 8 that Latabitha Burt finished first place in the essay and poster contest; Ariyana Young finished second place in the poster contest; Isaac Manzano finshed third place in the essay contest; and Tayshawn James finished third place in the essay contest.

Burt received $600; Young received $200; and Manzana and James received $100 each.

According to a letter from the ABC Board, approximately 33 percent of Alabama eighth graders and three out of four secniors have had an alcoholic beverage. The essay, video and poster contest serves as a way to help reduce the number.
