The Escambia County Healthcare Authority announced Aug. 17 that 2,153 cases of COVID-19 have been reported out of its two hospitals.

The latest number is an increase of 195 cases since the Aug. 10 report. The ECHA releases its COVID-19 report every Tuesday.

According to a release, 1,106 cases (plus 39) have been reported out of Atmore Community Hospital, and 1,047 cases (plus 156) from D.W. McMillan Memorial in Brewton since the last update. At ACH, 5,374 have been tested for the virus as of Aug. 17, and 5,918 have been tested at DWM.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, 5,181 confirmed cases have been reported out of Escambia County.

Eighty-four people have died in the county.

Due to the timing of the informatin, the numbers may differ from the numbers on the ADPH’s website.

Confirmed cases are recorded by public health officials in the patient’s county of residence.
