Lady Cougars finish third at regional tourney

Escambia Academy finished in third place at the AISA Class 1A, Region 1 volleyball tournament today in Canoe.

The Lady Cougars beat Jackson Academy 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18) in the consolation game to decided third and fourth place, and fell 3-0 (16-25, 24-26, 20-25) to Crenshaw Christian in the tournament semifinals.

With the finish, EA advances to the Elite Eight Tournament, which kicks off next Mon., Oct. 25 at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery. The Lady Cougars face the second-place finisher from Region 2 at noon.

Against Jackson, Lillie Lanham had five kills; and Caitlin Lanham had four kills to lead the Lady Cougars.

Tiffany Gookin had two aces and six kills; and KayLeigh Jay had six kills in the loss to Crenshaw Christian.

EA’s Gookin and L. Lanham were selected to the All-Tournament team.
