UPDATE: In an earlier version of this story, we incorrectly named the band that provided entertainment during the event. We have corrected the name here and in our print edition.

The Atmore community today celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the boxcar on Trammell Street.

After a welcome from Bub Gideons, the “National Anthem” sung by Mary Beth Lancaster and some words from Mayor Jim Staff, the boxcar name was revealed.

Main Street Atmore’s Niki Bryan said some 56 names were submitted for the boxcar.

Dr. Kevin Garrett, pastor at First Baptist Church, was one of six who picked the same name. The six names were put in a pot, and Staff drew the winning ticket.

Garrett, along with five others, picked Boxcar Willie.

When the name was read, the Atmore community was encouraged to be a part of the ribbon cutting.

Southern Approach provided music entertainment for the guests that attended.
