Enhanced risk of storms to impact area Tuesday, Wednesday

• Slight Risk across the region on Wednesday

 • Tuesday: 

• A potent line of storms will race across the region Tuesday morning into early afternoon. There is also the threat for a few supercells to develop well ahead of the line.

• Main threats:

• Wind damage with winds up to 70 mph possible

• Fast moving tornadoes either ahead of embedded in the line. A strong tornado cannot be ruled out.

• A tornado threat will also exist with any supercells that develop ahead of the line.

Wednesday:

• Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible mid to late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.  A few of those storms could become severe. Tornado threat will be lower compared to Tuesday.

• Main threats:

• Damaging wind gusts

• Large hail

• Brief tornado cannot be completely ruled out

• 1-3” of rain with locally higher amounts possible. Localized flash flooding possible.

Escambia County EMA Director David Adams said today there is now an enhanced risk of severe storms over much of the area on Tuesday.

Adams said a slight risk continues for Wednesday.

“We continue to expect two rounds of potential severe weather, with the first from late tonight through early Tuesday evening and the second from late Wednesday morning through the evening hours,” Adams said. “Localized flash flooding remains possible on Tuesday with generally 1-3 inches of rain with locally higher amounts. Severe storms through the period will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.”

Both impacts are outlined below:

Impact 1 – Late tonight into Tuesday Evening – Severe Storms and Flash Flooding

  • WHAT: Strong to severe thunderstorms. Localized flash flooding possible.
  • WHEN: Beginning after 3am tonight with the highest potential Tuesday morning (most likely after 8am) through early Tuesday evening around 8pm.
  • WHERE: All of the forecast area.
  • CONFIDENCE: Moderate.

Impact 2 – Wednesday Severe Storms

  • WHAT: Strong to severe thunderstorms.
  • WHEN: Late Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening.
  • WHERE: All of the forecast area.
  • CONFIDENCE: Moderate.
