ADOC officials attempted lifesaving measures, inmate later passes away
A Fountain Correctional Facility inmate was found unresponsive and later passed away on April 4, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
ADOC Spokesperson Kristi Simpson said in a release that Maurice Powell, 47, serving a 27-year sentence for manslaughter out of Coosa County, was found unresponsive by facility staff.
“Unfortunately, all attempts at lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and he subsequently was pronounced deceased,” Simpson said. “His exact cause of death is pending a full autopsy; however, foul play is not suspected at this time.”
Simpson said the incident is being investigated by the department’s Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD), and more information will be available upon the conclusion of the investigation.
