The 2022 National Day of Prayer was held Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park in Atmore.
Local pastors and city leaders participated in the annual event, which is held annual on the first Thursday of May. The day was designated by the U.S. Congress as a day where people are asked to turn to God in prayer and meditation.
During the service, different prayers were said by local pastors for penance, first responders and different facets of the country, including government, church, military, family, education, media and business.
First Assembly of God’s Rangers escorted the United States flag for the pledge of allegiance.
To start the call to prayer, Willonette Hammond blew the shofar. Additionally, Bible verses were read by the crowd.
Prayers for the media, church, government, first responders, military and family, to name a few, were completed during the service.
