A Fort Deposit man died in a crash involving a pedestrian and a disabled vehicle on Highway 31 five miles east of Atmore, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said in a release that the crash occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. on July 3.
Burkett said Ray L. Singleton, 77, of Fort Deposit, was fatally injured when the 2013 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Jimmy E. Barnes, 77, of Panama City, Fla., struck the disabled vehicle, which was in the process of being recovered by the wrecker on the shoulder of the roadway.
“Singleton was struck by the disabled vehicle, which resulted in him being pronounced deceased at the scene,” Burkett said.
Burkett said the crash occurred near the 45-mile marker, approximately 5 miles east of Atmore.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
