Gulf Breeze, Fla. man arrested on drug charges

A Gulf Breeze, Fla. man was arrested July 22 on multiple drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Charles Southerland, 51, of Gulf Breeze, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance in reference to methamphetamine and suboxone pills, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said at approximately 7:30 a.m. on July 22, APD officers were dispatched to the Holiday Inn Express on Highway 21 in reference to an unconscious male subject sitting in his running vehicle.

“The vehicle was in the middle of the parking lot blocking several vehicles in parking spaces,” McMann said. “The officers knocked several times on the windows attempting to wake up the driver, later identified as Charles Southerland, age 51 of Gulf Breeze, Fla.”

McMann said while interacting with Southerland, the officer noticed that he was sweating profusely and acting strangely.

McMann said during the course of the investigation the officers discovered approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine, suboxone pills, a rolled marijuana cigarette, a metal container that was wrapped in tape that contained the pills, and a butane lighter.
