An Escambia County High School student was arrested today after a report of a firearm at the school, according to officials.

According to the Escambia County Schools (Ala.) Facebook page, a report was made today that a student might be in possession of a firearm.

“A critical response alert was issued by the school administration,” officials said on the Facebook post. “Local law enforcement responded to the school, recovered the firearm and arrested the student.”

According to reports, the gun was determined to be a BB pistol, which was an exact replica of an actual handgun. The school was placed under a brief lockdown at the time.

All students are safe and accounted for, and normal operation of the school resumed, officials said.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Atmore Police Department and members of a state drug task force responded to the school, according to reports.
