Escambia County defeated Monroe County 20-0 in regular-season action tonight in Monroeville.
The Blue Devils improve to 4-1 on the season, the first time they’ve reached the record mark since 2010.
ECHS head football coach Vincent Harris said it was a slow start, and the game was scoreless at the break.
Harris said in the second half, the Blue Devils established the run and got a couple of pass plays going.
Mason Huggins and James Whatley had rushing touchdowns, and Marrion Hooks caught a long reception for a score.
Harris said the defense played well.
“They did a great job of holding them down for us,” he said, adding that Lebron Hooks caught his seventh interception.
Harris said the team will need to keep getting better as it hosts Jackson next Friday night to continue Class 4A, Region 1 play.
Harris said the Blue Devils need to win the next two of four region games to get a berth into the state playoffs.
