Escambia Academy held its foot on the gas early and throughout in a 40-14 regular-season victory over South Choctaw on Friday in Toxey.
The Cougars came out strong in the opening half, scoring on their firs three drives. Defensively, EA held SA in check.
EA head football coach Gex Billups said his team led 26-6 at halftime, and the kids came out in the second half and put a scoring drive together, an answer to a sloppy second quarter.
“The defense made some big stops,” Billups said. “We just kept our foot on the gas pedal all night. We played well, and we played hard. I’m proud of them.”
EA ends its regular season next Friday night at Fort Dale Academy in Greenville, and then will more than likely visit Chambers Academy on Nov. 4 in the first round of the AISA Class 2A state playoffs.
The Cougars defeated CA 37-13 in the second round in 2021.
