Last November, the American people made it clear House Democrats had misplaced priorities and were leading the country in the wrong direction. Thankfully, House Republicans are now in the majority, and we are hitting the ground running this week and next week with bills to focus on the issues facing the American people.
The first bills we will bring to the floor will address Biden’s attempts to beef up the IRS with thousands of new agents, skyrocketing energy costs, the crisis at our southern border, the growing threat from China, and much more.
Many of you wrote to me and called my office a few months back when the Biden administration gave tens of billions of dollars to the IRS for them to hire 87,000 new agents. My colleagues and I are just as angry about this as you, and that’s why the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act will be one of the first bills we vote on so we can stop this ridiculous expansion of the IRS. The government should work for the people, not against them.
We will also have several bills to begin fixing the crisis at our southern border. For example, the Border Safety and Security Act will give the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) the authority to turn away illegal immigrants at the border if the Secretary of DHS does not have control of the situation. We have much bigger plans to address this crisis, and this bill is a very good start so we can get the border under control. Since President Biden took office, we’ve seen record numbers of illegal immigrants flooding our country. This needs to end now.
Additionally, my colleagues and I will introduce several bills to address our energy crisis and bring the cost of fuel down. We will do our part to ensure the Biden administration – or any administration – can no longer drain our Strategic Petroleum Reserves when it suits them politically, and we will also do our part to prohibit the Secretary of Energy from sending petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China. These are just the first steps, and we will also do all we can to boost domestic energy production and make the United States energy independent again.
In addition to these bills which are ready-to-go, our committees are working tirelessly to finalize other legislation to hold the Biden administration accountable for their actions and address the priorities that matter the most to you. I’m excited to see the agenda we’ve been working on for months begin to become a reality for the American people. You elected us to work for you, and that’s exactly what we intend to do.
