An Atmore man was arrested Jan. 20 on drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Investigations and Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Chad Godwin, 41, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said on Jan. 20 at approximately 9:20 p.m., an APD officer observed a vehicle on Highway 31 being driven without lights.
“The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, Chad Godwin, 41 of Atmore,” McMann said. “While speaking with Godwin, the officer requested consent to search the vehicle. Godwin gave his consent and then changed his mind. A K-9 was requested to come to the scene.”
McMann said an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy arrived at the scene.
“The K-9 alerted on the vehicle,” McMann said. “The officers discovered a small bag containing approximately 1 gram of a crystal-like substance and a glass pipe with residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine.”
McMann said Godwin was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton
