An Atmore man was arrested and charged with attempted murder, among other charges, on Feb. 10, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that George Cooper, 44, of Atmore, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, burglary I, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, reckless endangerment and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.
McMann said the arrest stems after APD officers responded to a residence on King Street at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Feb 10 in reference to a shooting.
“When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that George Cooper, 44, of Atmore, forced open the front door and attempted to shoot one of the people inside the residence before fleeing the scene,” McMann said.
McMann said Cooper was seen by an officer a short distance away, and was taken into custody.
Cooper had a loaded firearm in his pocket when he was arrested, McMann said.
McMann added that Cooper is a convicted felon.
Cooper was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
