A Brewton man and woman were arrested early Friday morning on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said Lenard Conway, 61, and Rachel Rice, 44, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McMann said in a release that at approximately 1:50 a.m. Feb. 24, an APD officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying an expired temporary tag. The officer contacted Conway, he added.
“During the encounter, the officer discovered that Conway’s driver’s license was suspended,” McMann said.

McMann said the officer then contacted Rice to determine if she had a valid driver’s license.
“As Rice was exiting the vehicle, the officer observed what appeared to be marijuana rolled in white paper (joint or blunt),” he said. “The substance field tested positive for marijuana.”

McMann said upon searching the vehicle, the officers discovered a Ziplock bag containing a white crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also discovered was a container containing a glass pipe with a white residue that field tested positive, an unidentified pill and other paraphernalia.

Six grams of Methamphetamine, four glass pipes with methamphetamine residue, five grams of marijuana, and the unidentified pill were found in the vehicle, he added.

Conway and Rice were then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
