An Atmore woman was arrested March 5 on drug charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Rebecca Denais, 60, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said the arrest stems after an APD officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle in front of him displaying an expired license plate at 5:35 p.m. on March 5. He added that the officer performed a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Denais.
“While speaking with Denais, the officer observed a brown cigar on the console that contained a brown leafy substance believed to be synthetic cannabis (spice),” McMann said. “The officer requested Denais to exit the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, the officer retrieved the brown cigar and also discovered a digital scale and a container that contained more brown cigars containing the same substance.”
McMann said the officer requested a female officer from a neighboring agency to search Denais.
“Upon searching Denais, the officer recovered clear crystal-like substance that was inside a container that field tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said. “Also discovered in the container was approximately 1.5 grams of synthetic cannabis.”
Denais was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
