Two women were arrested March 19 on drug charges, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Madonna Barnhill, 57, of Flomaton and Carolyn Harris, 43, of Mobile, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest stems when APD officers responded to a parking lot on Church Street in reference to a suspicious vehicle on March 19.

“When the officer arrived he observed there were two females in the vehicle who appeared to be sleeping,” McMann said. “As the officer was looking through the window, he observed two small open boxes that contained glass pipes commonly used to ingest narcotics, hypodermic needles and small plastic baggies, which contained an unspecified amount of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.”

McMann said the officer was able to wake up the females who were identified Barnhill and Harris.

Both were then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
