City approves planning commission, utility board renewals

The Atmore City Council approved planning commission and utility board renewals during its regular meeting Monday afternoon.

The planning commission renewals included Harold Dailey, Debbie Rowell and Kenny Smith.

The utility board term renewal (six years) is for Dr. Stephen Shirley.

In other business, the city:

  • approved a drainage easement for Bana A. Saeed Aboubaker, who owns a piece of property near the interstate;
  • approved a community outreach event at Boxcar Willie for July 13-15 for a three-night revival. Food will be handed out as well. The revival is being held to pull people out of the streets;
  • approved a Family Fun Day for a local family at Houston Avery Park for July 1; and,
  • approved the third annual Mental Health Awareness Walk for May 20, at 10 a.m. The walk will begin at Emmanuel Faith Center on Ridgeley Street and ends at Houston Avery Park.

Additionally, the city also adopted two proclamations, proclaiming May as Mental Health Awareness Month, and June as Gun Violence Awareness Month.
