Betty Lou McGhee Caraway, 76, of Atmore, passed away on May 4, 2023, surrounded by family.

She was born on March 24, 1947 in Atmore to the Rev. Mace and Elba “Coot” McGhee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evon Menzel; sister, Hazel Brice; nephew, Keith Allen McGhee; and niece, Karen Menzel.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Eugene Caraway Jr.; four children, Kim (Jimmy) Flowers of Atmore, Shane (Shannon) Caraway of Atmore, Susan (Mark) Spruill of Atmore and Jacava (Lara) Mattison of Jacksons Gap; brother, Mace (Carol) McGhee Jr. of Bow, Wash.; sister, Clara Jones of Atmore; sister, Karen (Jeff) Findley of Everett, Wash.; special friend, Sandy Everette; caregiver, Leslie Jarman; her 13 grandchildren, Trent Flowers, Corey Flowers, Katelyn Patane, Cierra Caraway, Mikayla Spruill, Dallas Rivers, Joshua Spruill, Parker Mattison, EmmaLee Mattison, Maddilynn Stewart, Brenlynn Stewart, Brennen Stewart, Logan Johnson and Amy Morris; and her 18 great-grandchildren, Alli Flowers, Aubrey Flowers, Kintley Flowers, Avery Flowers, Gunner Flowers, Tyr Patane, Chandler Rivers, Rowynn Rivers, Branson Kade Bridges, Luxton Rivers, Emberlyn Johnson, Annistyn Johnson, Paislynn Stewart, Lucian Johnson, Blakelyn Holder, Serenity Phillips, Maliyah Phillips and Ella Phillips.

Funeral services were held on May 7, 2023 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Active pallbearers were Boochie Jones, Brice McGhee, Xan McGhee, Mark Caraway, Tony Tolbert and Roy Pettis.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
