An Atmore man and woman have been arrested on murder and aggravated child abuse charges, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Heath Jackson said in a release that Shyanne Comalander, 24, of Atmore, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated child abuse; and Shelby Comalander, 48, of Atmore, has been charged with one count each of murder, aggravated child abuse and possession of methamphetamine.
Jackson said in a release that on April 9, 2023, the ECSO conducted a death investigation into the suspicious death of a 2 month old.
“The child had numerous bruises to the body and had suffered severe head trauma,” Jackson said. “A thorough investigation was completed by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Department of Human Resources leading to the arrest of Shelby Comalander and Larry Jackson.”
Jackson said both suspects are being held without bond pending a hearing.
The case is still open and no other information will be released at this time, Jackson said.
