Atmore man arrested June 8 on drug, receiving stolen charges

An Atmore man was arrested June 8 on drug, receiving stolen property and being a fugitive from justice charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Trenton Atchison, 22, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana I, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property II, fugitive from justice and unlawful possession of a pistol.

McMann said at approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday, an APD officer performed a traffic stop on Medical Park Drive in reference to a driver known to have two felony warrants for certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm with the Santa Rosa County, Fla. Sheriff’s Office.

McMann said the officer contacted Atchison.

“Upon confirming that Santa Rose County would extradite Atchison, he was placed under arrest,” McMann said. “When the officer opened the door to arrest Atchison, he noticed a handgun on the floor board and a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. Upon running the serial number of the handgun, it was discovered to have been a stolen firearm. Also discovered was an unspecified amount of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana, and several empty small plastic baggies.”
Atchison was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
