An Atmore man was arrested July 7 on drug and attempting to elude charges, according to officials.

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Gregory Brown, 56, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude a police officer.

McMann said the arrest stemmed from Brown being observed by an APD officer at approximately 11:30 p.m. riding a bicycle on Liberty Street with no lights.
McMann said the officer contacted Brown, and was checking his identification when Brown fled on his bicycle.

“Brown was taken into custody a short time later in a nearby wooded area,” McMann said. “Officers searched Brown and found a metal straw used to ingest narcotics that contained a white rocky substance that field tested positive for cocaine.”

Additionally, Brown also had active warrants for his arrest for theft of property III, criminal mischief third degree and criminal trespassing III.

Brown was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
