In just a few weeks, Escambia County Habitat for Humanity will begin a new build in our county and the group is looking for volunteers to help in the project.

HFH Director Shae Hines said volunteer labor helps to keep costs down when a home is built or renovated by the organization.

“We pass along expenses of building a home, or remodeling a home for our partner families at the close of the project,” Hines said. “Any work that we can get completed using volunteer efforts helps keep the total cost down for the new homeowner.”

Hines said the newest project for the group will be a build in Atmore on 7th Avenue for a partner family there. The build is set for Aug. 11 and 12.

“We will need volunteers who are willing to do a variety of chores in connection to building the home,” Hines said. “From painting, nailing, landscaping and everything in between, we would be happy to have community members helping with this project.”

The planned build will be the fourth Habitat project in the Atmore area. Other homes built or renovated are on Craig Street and in the Nokomis area.

Hines said other builds are planned as the group works to secure funding to pay for those projects. Projects by Habitat for Humanity span the entire county with current Habitat-funded homes in Brewton, East Brewton, Flomaton and Atmore.
